Careful and persistent work or effort
What is it?
Diligence is a person’s dedication to consistent hard-work and staying focused on the tasks at hand. People with this quality are organized, responsible, reliable, and can be trusted to be on time and prepared to work.
Why is it important?
With the fast pace of the medical profession, individuals who are organized, on top of their paperwork, and focused on each case they work are able to not only provide good quality of care to their patients, but ensure that medical recording is done correctly to help positively influence patients’ future medical transactions.
-
Double Check Everything
What may seems like a huge inconvenience and waste of time, ultimately can save time by making sure work is done properly the first time. Any errors that may impact the patient’s health can be caught quickly by taking an extra minute to review orders and charts.
-
Limit Distractions
It can be very easy to become distracted or have your attention pulled in multiple directions. Establish rules with your medical team that questions will wait until necessary actions are taken in regards to patients and immediately necessary paperwork.

Know Your Limits
The easiest way to fall behind on your work is to take on more than you can handle. Be realistic with yourself about what you can and cannot accomplish on a given day, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if the stack of “to dos” starts to get out of control.
